This module is divided into three sections and analyzes different tools to stimulate students to engage in problem solving and creative thinking during educational activities based on real-world tasks. We have identified three possible methods to stimulate, test, and challenge students’ abilities: project work, design thinking, and hackathons. All of these working methods are widely used in idea generation and innovation processes in companies and are very well suited to being successfully employed in educational settings. Each methodology has its strengths and weaknesses, making them more or less suitable for different learning contexts. The module explains these methodologies in their specifics and provides teachers with tools to manage work groups, propose “challenging” educational opportunities, and support students in the application phase. The materials also include guidelines for proposing these activities to students and practical cases of ongoing workshops to support implementation.
